Welcome on the homepage of the Kanyon Raft Team!

The Kanyon Raft Team was formed in 2002. It has been the most successful rafting team in Hungary so far. In this site you can find everything about us: you can learn more about the past and the present of our team, can see how we prepare for the forthcoming races and can meet the members of the Kanyon Raft Team.

You can find here photos and videos about our races, travels and other exiting experiences. Also you can get some basic information about the history of the Hungarian rafting sport.

First European Championship Victory since the beginning

On the first week of June was the Rafting European Championships in Italy (Val di Sole).

The Hungarian national rafting team were there as well with 3 teams.(two women, one man team).

On the way to Italy in the bus the Kanyon raft team took a promise what it means if they win gold medal on something event: all of them have to cut them hair…..

The Italian course was not easy, it was very powerful and technical with lot of big waves, and stones as well. The water level was always different… Sometimes big, sometimes shallow and of course it was very cold.

This 2010 year was not so easy for the boys because after the World Rafting Championship two of them stop his carrier in rafting. So the four other guy had to paddle on different position and with different team members. They worked hard on winter than thy started to build again the basics on the water. : Thy learned again what it means teamwork, driving, hard work together, paddle at the same time together….

Thy had lot of European Cup as training race, thy started to win the Cups, thy had experience, thy had fine moments together… Thy improved a lot in slalom event….. In Italy the new kanyon raft team won his First Gold medal in the European Championship since the beginning.

Thy had the 14th time on Sprint but next event was Head to Head (H2H) what it means two team fight together and the end the faster is win. The kanyon raft team bit the Portugal, Slovenia, Serbia, Nederland and on the final round thy bit the German national team as well.

The kanyon raft already won two silver medal in a European Championship in Austria in 2008. They had the 2nd time (0,8secund les than the 1st) after the Nederland team in the Sprint event. But now thy are the European Champions .

Thy had national songs and lot of team congratulate them, and everybody were happy for them. After that day when thy won, everybody had to cat his hair ….. because thy had a promise…

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!
2009 may 25.

May 21^st 2009, in the down-river discipline our efforts paid off: We are the world champions!

The day before we were in gloomy mood but we decided that despite our unfavorable start position (we were the last boat in the third round) we would do our best, perform 110% and let’s see…

Next day when we’d seen the starting positions we were more optimistic since advantages and disadvantages between the positions was not such obvious. And there was an other promising sign: by draw we received the same boot we were training in for a half year before the championship.

We got tired, went at it hard… and the at the top of final official down-river ranking there is Hungary :) !

We’ve expected better results in Sprint and Head2Head, and on the last day it proved true that one can not became a professional in slalom going around broom handles in flat water once a months; and even so in the total ranking we’ve finished the championship on place 8 among 32 nations, preceding for example the professional Slovakian and Slovenian teams.

We are proud to our girls team as well, they’ve completed the slalom course without any error coming to place 10 among 21 nations, in total ranking arrived to place 11.
